Ninth Meeting of the United Nations Network of Economic Statisticians

The meeting will take place virtually from 7:00 a.m. to 8:15 a.m., New York time, on November 12, 2025. Where appropriate, notes on the topics to be discussed will be circulated to participants in advance of the meeting. This will ensure that the sessions make use of the limited time through focused discussions.

  1. 7:00 a.m. – 7:05 a.m.: Opening remarks

  2. 7:05 - 7:30 a.m. Report on 2025 Sprints

    Presenters: Jacqui Vitas General Manager ABS, Joe De Beer Deputy Director-General: Economic Statistics, Statistics South Africa and Chris Li Director Statistics Canada

    The session will provide a summary of the outcomes of the Sprints that the Network has carried out (e.g., Net-zero led by ABS, Sub-national statistics led by the BEA, Tourism statistics led by StatCan) with the help of various NSOs and other organizations. This is an opportunity for Network members to provide their own comments on the value of these webinars and the outcomes.

  3. 7:30 a.m. – 7:45 a.m.: Overview of the Expert Group and Well-being Measurement (EGWM)

    Presenters: Richard Heys deputy Director ONS

    This session will bring members up to date on the activities of the Expert Group on Well-being Measurement which spun out of the Network’s activities last year, and which is now working independently of the Network, but still ensuring complementarity of activities.

  4. 7:45 a.m. – 8:25 a.m.: Overview and Discussion on proposed topics for further work by the Network

    This session will provide participants with an opportunity to provide comments on a number of proposals of work that the Network would like to pursue in the coming year. Each topic will be presented by the lead organizer. These short introductions of the proposals will be followed by a discussion with Network members, to seek their comments and suggestions on whether the Network should pursue the work and if so, in what way.

    The following topics are being proposed for the 2026 workplan of the Network:

    • Spatial accessibility measures in official statistics: methods, applications, and leveraging open data presented by Bjenk Ellefsen, Analyst Statistics Canada
    • Measuring Government Output and Value Addedpresented by Richard Heys, Deputy Director Office of National Statistics UK
    • Objective weights for composite indicatorspresented by Richard Heys, Deputy Director Office of National Statistics UK
    • Integration of statistical registers presented by Stefano Menginello, Director National Institute of Statistics Italy

  5. 8:25 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.: Concluding remarks
